Celestron 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain

With the completion of the new Barton-Brown Observatory at the Waterville Public Library in Waterville, NY, the 16" Meade Seif Telescope was moved from the Apollo observatory to the BBO on Oct 25, 2012.

It was replaced with an eleven-inch Celestron Schmidt-Casegrain telescope on a Celestron German equatorial GoTo mount and tripod.

Outside the observatory, six concrete observing pads with electric service for computerized mounts and other equipment are available to members along with dark skies that give spectacular views of the night sky. Next to the observatory is a converted trailer that holds our lending library of over 1,000 books, atlases, and observing guides for members' use.

The Apollo Observatory served as the “home base” for member stargazing events, meteor watches, a Venus transit, astro-photography using digital cameras, asteroid-hunting expeditions, and numerous other observing projects prior to 2013.

The Apollo Observatory was decommissioned in 2017. We now invite members and the public to the Barton-Brown Observatory.
